Week Five: Movement Skills

Join Claudia Alessi and Laura Boynes as they explore how movement can enhance a story and also be the story.

Movement for Character with Claudia Alessi

Claudia is a dance and physical theatre specialist of 30 years-experience. She is a regular lecturer at WAAAPA across many departments. In her tutorial she will explore movement for actors and movement for character creation.


Movement as an imaginative space with Laura Boynes

Laura is a dancer and dancemaker who works nationally a performer, choreographer and movement director. In this tutorial Laura will explore movement as an imaginative space and movement for non-verbal story telling.

Claudia Alessi

Headshot of Claudia AlessiClaudia Alessi’s diverse and award-winning career in Dance and Physical Theatre spans 30 years. She lectures across departments a WAAPA as a sessional lecturer in Dance, Acting and MT Departments, Performance making and Classical Voice at WAAPA, while managing her studio The Chapel Space.


Laura Boynes

Laura Boynes headshotLaura Boynes is an award winning independent dance artist based in Perth, working nationally and internationally as a performer, choreographer, teacher and movement director. As a dancer Laura has performed in dance, theatre, experimental music, site-specific and opera works since graduating from LINK Dance Company (2007). From 2009-2013 Laura performed for Buzz Dance Theatre. To date Laura’s work explores social, political and environmental concepts for theatre, gallery and site-specific spaces. She has choreographed multiple short and full-length works and co-directed large commissions for dance companies such as LINK Dance Company, CO;3 Youth Ensemble, Buzz Dance Theatre and the WA Academy of Performing Arts. As a Movement Director Laura has worked for Black Swan State Theatre Company, Lost and Found Opera, Renegade Productions, Steam-works Arts, Yirra Yaakin Aboriginal Theatre Company and Variegated Productions. Her solo work Wonder Woman recently premiered at the State Theatre Centre of WA.
